SOMETHING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Our Early Childhood department is a safe and loving environment for children birth through five years. Leaders give special care and attention to each child who is entrusted to them during the worship service. Jesus' love, radiating from our Kidzstreet leaders, helps your children feel church is a happy place where they are loved and secure.
Every weekend, kids ages six through 3rd grade are greeted as they enter our Kidzstreet children's area. You can hear the energetic sounds of worship as kids learn to praise God in their own words. They'll hear Bible lessons presented in an interactive, creative way so they'll be able to apply those truths to their lives. Your kids will sense the love of God coming from dedicated adults who are committed to serving Jesus by leading kids.
God has a purpose for your teens! They don't need to wait until they are adults to make their life count! Whether your teen is in high school or junior high, we'll bring a biblical message of hope and challenge to them. We use cutting edge videos, fun games and music that rocks to shatter the stereotype that church has to be boring. Our teens meet every other Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. They also do some pretty cool activities each month.
Our Journey Groups are a small group setting that are the backbone of getting connected at the Journey. We have groups that fit a number of special purposes, as well as those that are general in nature. We meet in many different locations around the community, so take a look below - we probably have a group near you.
YOU BELONG HERE
Don't worry about what to wear. We're more concerned about you as a person. So, dress casually (most people wear jeans or shorts), grab a cup of gourmet coffee, and enjoy our upbeat music from a live band and vocal team.
Our messages give practical insight from the Bible and deal with real life issues. Printed outlines, multi-media, and movie clips, will help you grasp the message with take home value. Many people admit that they review the notes throughout the week as a helpful reminder on how to live the life God wants for them.
Mike is our lead pastor and when he's not working on sermons or explaining how to become a follower of Jesus to someone, you can usually catch him on Ski Patrol, reading a good fiction book, or fishing.
Mike's Sunday messages (even the flat ones) inspire you. They're full of practical advice to help you conquer the real world problems in your life and enjoy life as God intends you to. Mike has a master's degree in theology from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, and he really uses his training to bring the Bible to life every Sunday.
One of Mike's passions is starting new churches (referred to by many as "church planting"). Mike has started 3 churches here in America, and is a church planting coach for men and women who are called to start new churches.
In addition, Journey Church has started
2 new churches in Africa. One in Kapilakin, Kenya among the Pokot people of the Rift Valley. The other in the capital city of Kigali, Rwanda. These churches are transforming
the lives of hundreds of people living in these areas. Mike also founded the organization Jirani, which has raised funds to dig wells, build schools and orphanages in the Pokot region.
Mike and his wife Beth are now empty nesters, after raising two amazing daughters who are both married and involved in ministry.
A NEW PLACE TO WORSHIP
In 2005, we started a campaign called "Homeward Bound" and purchased 11 acres of property on the corner of I-75 and Rattalee Lake Road in Springfield Township. This is a beautiful piece of prime property with great visibility from I-75. It will make a spectacular site for our new church campus.
In September of 2018 we officially broke ground on the new site. Thanks to the skilled labor and tremendous workforce of the Journey community, we should be in our new home by next year. It is a very exciting time for the Journey.
While the land has been paid for, we are still working to pay for the building. To make donations to Homeward Bound, you can go to our Online Giving page, follow the instructions and choose Homeward Bound. Or, you may make your checks out to The Journey, indicating in the memo line, "Homeward Bound."
JIRANI:SWAHILI FOR "NEIGHBOR"
The Journey Church, in partnership with the Good Shepherd and Jirani ministries is helping to bring the love of Christ to one of the most remote places on Earth.
We have planted multiple churches in East Africa, including a church in Rwanda and in West Pokot, Kenya. For 15 years now, The Journey has been traveling to the Great Rift Valley of northern Kenya to serve the Pokot people.
Recently, through the Good Shepherd ministry, we have been working with local shepherds and small business owners. Our goal is to reach those who have not heard the gospel through teaching the shepherds ways to improve the health of their livestock. As a pastoral people, the health of their animal herds is directly related to the health of the people.
We have also donated castration tools, tick sprayers and protective gear, in addition to repairing three wells. Our goal is not to simply be charitable, but to give the Pokot the necessary tools to become a self-sufficient society. Through these micro-finance projects, the Pokot are able to establish a foundation for future growth while taking pride in knowing that it is through their efforts that their people have been able to thrive.
If you would like to donate to our efforts, you can go to the Giving page. Be sure to select The Pokot Fund. Thank you for all of your support.
