Are you worried?

Carol O’Neil - Secretary

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

What is worry?  Worry is a way of thinking about future events that leaves you feeling anxious and fearful.  Worry can occupy your mind to the point that you are “stuck in worry” unable to think clearly about other things and unable to function normally.  The Gospel of Matthew

(6:27&34) asks, “And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?  So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own.  Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Perhaps, when a worry is bothering you, you should ask yourself, “What is the worst that can happen?  “Is there anything I can do to make the situation better?  If so, do it.  If not, give your worry to God for he said in Isaiah 41:13: “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear: I will help you.”

To use these Biblical principles effectively, you must have faith in God. Ask yourself if you live your life with faith and in obedience to God’s principles. The Bible says “without faith you cannot please God.”  Henry Ford once said: “I believe God is managing affairs and that he doesn’t need any advice from me.  With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end. So, what is there to worry about?”

Prayer

Lord, I’m feeling overwhelmed by my worries and anxieties. Please take my hand and give me peace, strength and understanding.  Allow me to give you my fears and, help me to understand that you are in control, so everything will work out for the best. Help me to have faith in your goodness and mercy.

Amen
