Seeking God in Prayer: A Daily Devotional

Dennis Ziesmer - Treasurer

Scripture: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." - Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

In our fast-paced, constantly connected world, it's easy for me to let the practice of daily prayer get forgotten. Maybe it is similar for you? This scripture reminds us that seeking God should be our foremost priority. Just as we make time for meals and other daily routines, we should carve out moments each day to connect with our Heavenly Father. When we seek God's presence through prayer, we align our hearts and minds with His will.

Imagine starting your day in conversation with the Creator of the universe. Prayer isn’t just about asking for things we need but about building a relationship with God. It’s in these moments of solitude that we can listen, praise, thank, and confess. The more consistently we seek God, the more we become aware of His work in our lives and the world around us.

When we dedicate time to prayer, we often find that we receive more than we ask for. Our burdens feel lighter, our worries seem smaller, and our spirits are uplifted. This is God’s promise to us – when we prioritize His kingdom, He ensures that everything we need is provided.

Make a commitment today to develop a consistent time of prayer. Set aside a few minutes at a particular time of day that works for you. Then quiet your heart and seek God's guidance. You don’t need elaborate words, just an honest conversation. Remember, the more you practice, the more natural it will become.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to seek You first each day. Give me the discipline to dedicate time to prayer. Give my heart and mind with willingness to hear Your voice. Strengthen my faith as I seek You in prayer. Amen.

I hope this practice of seeking God in prayer become a daily source of strength and inspiration for you, as I seek to do it myself.
