That Voice in My Head

Read John 14:26
My sisters and I have a fun time remembering the catch phrases dad would use on us over and
over when we lived in his home. It seemed I even had at least one that was customized for
me… his only son.
I would do something in too big of a hurry and hear… “speed kills”.
Since teenage boy’s brains are not fully baked yet, I would do something less that awesome
and hear… “think, boy, think” … or “use your head”.
I would want to be out with friends late and hear… “nothing good happens after midnight”.
I would do something dangerous and hear “safety first” (although this one turned into more of
an inside joke, since he has been the most accident/injury guy I have ever known… and that
race is not even close).
Or… related to that last one… “be tough”.
The funny thing is… after I moved out of his house and all through my adult life… I can still
occasionally hear him say those things in my head. It is so ingrained and always there where I
“need” it.
Are you now remembering the phrases you heard as kid?
John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he
will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
See! God does the same thing! If you have been saved… then God has intentionally provided
you with that “voice in your head” to remind you of the things He has said. The thing is… He
even went one step further and gave them to us in writing (His Word - The Bible).
Spend time getting to know Him and His sayings…. and the Holy Spirit will bring those to mind
when we need them… just like those dad voices in my head all these years later.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me your ways. Thank you for giving me that “voice in my head” called
the Holy Spirit. I’m thankful you always have my best interest in mind. Draw me close to You.
Amen.
